It is rather difficult to get grip on the addresses of Albanian musical life. The classical music scene has still been scarcely developed after so many centuries of isolation from the civilized world. The folk music on the other hand is very interesting, especially that of the South-Albanian Tosks.

Gjirokastër

Kalaja e Girokastrës

A National folklore festival on the birthday of dictator Enver Hoxha was held in the autumn of 1968on the castle premises of the museum village of Gjirokastër. It was repeated in1973, ’78, ’83, ’88, ’95 and since then every five years in May. It lasts six days and is the most prestigious event for Albanian folklore.
