Since the 17th century successively a theatre, Reduta and market hall; today a theatre (for small scale opera and spoken drama) and concert hall. Mozart played here on Christmas 1767 - the Mozart plaque on the façade was recently replaced by a Mozart monument (pillar with putto) on the square. Many other famous composers appeared here, a.o. Liszt in 1840 and 1846.

Former Augustinian monastery. Janáček studied here with Pavel Křížkovský between 1865 and 1869. A Křížkovský relief represents his favourite composition The drowned maiden. The museum is devoted to the famous botanist Gregor Mendel, who worked in the monastery. In the adjoining church of Mary Assumption, Janáček played a Suter organ from 1698 (not preserved).
He used to live round here, at first in Křížova 15 and 46, later (until 1910) on nr. 2 on this Mendel square, in his time called Klašterní námeští . These houses were all demolished, just like the nearby Beseda Brnenská where he worked.

Summer house of the composers Václav Kaprál and his gifted daughter Vítěslava Kaprálová (1915-1940). Her teacher Martinů visited her in 1938. In the garden is a symbolic grave of Vítěslava with the metal cross from her former grave in Montpellier (France) where she died from tuberculosis; she was reburied in Brno in 1949.
